Sky Gypsies
Jul 17th, 2008 | By Claudia | Category: Wild WheelsSky Gypsies are more than ordinary wild wheels because they come with a pair of wings.
The man behind this fantastic flying machine is non other than John McAfee. You know the man that is part of the McAfee Anti Virus software.
Being a female that likes to notice men (and be noticed by them) my adventurers heart softened around the edges for John and his flying machine called a Sky Gypsie.
John McAfee says he stumbled across the sport about 5 years ago, after seeing a photo in a magazine. Since then he’s spent about 11 million dollars of his fortune trying to transform the sport into a pastime that average people can afford.
The thrill of flying these airplanes is to take them into remote areas and then fly for miles at no more than 20 feet above the terrain. “We don’t fly above the scenery, we fly in it,” Mr. McAfee says.
The airplanes cost between $20,000 and $90,000, depending on engine size and wing design. The planes seat two people and cruise about 70 miles per hour, although much of the flying is done at speeds closer to 45 miles per hour.
Looks like a great idea for Big 5 territory.
I can already see myself flying through the African savannah eyeing out lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo and wild dogs. I can smell it even.
Seriously I’m green with envy - I want one yesterday already.
