My Heart Bleeds for Africa
Sep 24th, 2008 | By Claudia | Category: Claudia's Wild AdventuresHere I am in Vienna - eine Welt Stadt as we say in German - translated a World City.
And yes that we surely are. Cosmopolitan, sophisticated, wealthy with a sense of socialism, plus law and order. Respect for nature - we have trees - can’t just chop down a tree, you need permission from the local governing body to do that, yes even if that tree is in your garden and even if you planted that tree forty years ago - you cannot decide to just chop it down. Trees must be protected.
Same goes for the trash you can’t just throw your trash any where. Trash has to be sorted for recycling. Thats a good thing - we are being environmentally aware you know.
Plus we’re part of the EU and our currency, the € Euro is a strong one.
Never mind all that - women have equal rights , we can strutt our stuff physically and mentally. People can believe in God or not. We can choose from a range of political parties from right to lefter to left than left.
Seems like a good place to be in - the land of milk and honey. But yet I often think of Africa. The sheer beauty of it. The wildness. The African bush. The sun which shines so abundantly. Lions and elephants.
And okay I’ll be realistic: war, hunger, poverty, poaching and corruption.
But still my heart bleeds for Africa - it is every thing about it. I’m thinking we can send people to the moon. (There are people that believe the moon episode is a Hollywood hoax) Yet some how we can’t sort out Africa. And I don’t mean that it should be colonised and handed out to the whites as we all know you can’t just come in and take over. That is not Christian - even if the missionaries thought it was. And besides that has been done and didn’t work out.
I play with the idea of moving back to Africa. But will my children be safe? How will I earn money - If pay pal and other institutions are not allowed to pay into African accounts? I’m intrigued with living in Namibia. But then that old truth comes back to hit me square in the face - where ever you move you take your self with you.
So before one rushes in to make hasty decisions - my heart will have to listen to the one that sent me into existence in the first place. Is it a desire or a running away from my fears? I’m reminded of the cock roaches that all scuttle off into the crevices when you switch on the light but they are there to come out again when you switch the light off.
So here I am doing a job for Radio Africa International - what else? Doing PR and getting institutions to pay out money for African journalists and African Radio Stations so they can get with it and worldly and hopefully broadcast inspiring messages of health, wealth and politics to the deprived African masses.
But hey I’m free and can tell you Africa is at least worth a visit - care to join me?
